FAQs

What do you do?

First Cut create professional quality lathe cut records, we cut them in real time and get the sound quality as close to the original as possible. We use the highest quality blanks and take the most care with creating your records! The quality is fantastic which is why we offer 100% satisfaction for our clients.

How much audio can I fit on records?

When it comes to making records, we try to follow traditional run times akin to how records are meant to be since their creation. Below is how much you can fit on traditional format records with us.

7inch (6mins per side)
10inch (12mins per side)
12inch (17mins per side)

Any limits on ordering?

There’s no limits on what can be ordered, if you want a single record making we’re over the moon to do it or we can make hundreds. Although it’s good to note that we work in real time, so this should be factored into your expectations for shipping as large orders will take a lot longer.

What audio formats can you work with?

Almost all major audio formats can be sent over to cut to record, we do have software to convert files if necessary. It’s good to remember the sound of the record can only be as good as the original audio. Files like MP3 condense audio to reduce their size, so you end up with a condensed translation of that audio. We prefer to work with lossless audio files like that of an original uncompressed WAV or FLAC file to ensure the best quality sound transfer.

Can I email you about a custom order or event?

Of course, you can email us about anything you’d like to do, we’re super sympathetic to any of your endeavours. We always want to work with artists to help realise their dreams and are open to working out more cost-effective deals for events and large orders on a personal level.

What are the main benefits of using First Cut?

1. No minimum orders - Imagine going to a pressing plant asking for a single record to be made, they just wouldn’t do it.

2. Fast turnaround – Much quicker turn around to get your records, there’s often a wait of months from pressing plants dealing with the extra strain of Record Store Day.

3. Customer service – We’re here to make this as easy as possible for you, we want to give the best advice and service! If you have any trouble with anything, we’re on hand to help.
